Acai berries grow best in dark swampy ares. Also, they need low acidic soil to grow well. Eight species are native to Central and South America, from Belize southward to Brazil and Peru.

Acai berries are used in several things. For one, acai oil, taken from the berry, has antioxidants that help treat acne, wrinkles, and improves the texture of your skin. The Acai berry is used in many different weight loss supplements, and is used in several desserts, such as fruit salads and cereals. Also, acai berry juice is very healthy. For some Amazon tribes the Acai makes up over 40% of their diet.

An interesting fact is the proper pronunciation for Acai is 'Ah-Sigh-EE'. The binomial name for the Acai berry is Euterpe oleracea. The Acai palm has been used to successfully reforest already degraded regions of the Amazon Rain Forest. Acai cultivars are becoming popular, such as Acai Branco and Acai Para Dwarf.
