Acai Berry

Acai Berry Plants

The Acai berry originally came from the Amazon rain forests in dark swampy areas that are usually hard to get to. The Acai is a palm tree that grows to be 50 to 90 feet tall. The Acai berry looks like a small grape and is black-purple when ripe.

Grow Acai Berries

Acai berries grow best in dark swampy ares. Also, they need low acidic soil to grow well. Eight species are native to Central and South America, from Belize southward to Brazil and Peru.

Acai Berry Uses

Acai berries are used in several things. For one, acai oil, taken from the berry, has antioxidants that help treat acne, wrinkles, and improves the texture of your skin. The Acai berry is used in many different weight loss supplements, and is used in several desserts, such as fruit salads and cereals. Also, acai berry juice is very healthy. For some Amazon tribes the Acai makes up over 40% of their diet.

Acai Berry Facts

An interesting fact is the proper pronunciation for Acai is 'Ah-Sigh-EE'. The binomial name for the Acai berry is Euterpe oleracea.
