The White Currant is a cultivar of Ribes rubrum, or Red Currant. White Currant is a sweeter and albino variant of the Red Currant, but it is not a separate botanical species. Another popular Currant is the Black Currant, Ribes nigrum. There are many varieties and cultivars of Currants.
